Pearse Celtic Football Club will be crowned Cork AUL League 1 Champions this Friday the 29th of May in the Doughcloyne Hotel. The Management Committee of the Cork AUL ruled that the abandoned game between Richmond FC and Greenmount Rangers FC which was abandoned in injury time with the scores at 2-2 will stand. This means that Pearse’s 4-1 win over Innishvilla was good enough for the club to lift their first ever first division title. Huge credit must go to Kieran Morey, Terry Dalton and Martin O’Donovan in steering the team to victory in what was a very competitive and sometimes frustrating league. The players showed huge character this season and their commitment was immense, prior to Christmas the team had numerous free weekends and called off matches but the lads stuck with the task and deserve this just reward. The club played 12 league matches since Christmas winning 8 drawn 2 and losing only 2 which is outstanding. Friday night will see the presentation of the first division trophy by the Cork AUL, but it will also be the night of Pearse Celtic’s own awards like player of the year etc. The player of the year award will be very difficult for the management to make this year as there are at least 5 players in the running for it. The club will also make a presentation to Billy Lyons of the Cork AUL for his outstanding service to local football for over 30 years. Well done to all the players and managers
